SUBSTANCE: invention relates to sealing for mechanical couplings and fittings. Seal comprises sealing surfaces with one or more ledges that form closed leakage paths between coupling or fitting and connected by pipeline elements. Leakage paths are closed when the coupling or fitting is installed properly. Otherwise, leakage paths remain open, ensuring that improperly installed couplings and fittings can be detected during tests under pressure and before application of working pressure.
EFFECT: seal with edge ledges is disclosed.
