FIELD: computer equipment.

SUBSTANCE: device for decoding images with prediction comprises a processor; unit for input of compressed target block and syntax of encoded prediction mode, which includes flag and either index, or remaining (REM) mode; and a prediction mode decoding unit for: generating a list of possible prediction modes listing internal prediction modes; in response to determining that flag has first value, selecting internal prediction mode in list of possible prediction modes, which is identified by index; decompaction of target block using internal prediction mode selected from list of possible prediction modes; in response to determination that flag has second value, setting variable equal to REM mode value, and recursively executing rounds of the mode restoration process with respect to the mode from the list of possible prediction modes.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of decoding efficiency of encoded mode information.
