SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method of operating a gear pump and a gear pump. Proposed method consists in injecting injected fluid discharged from at least one inlet of case (3) via toothed wheels (11) in direction of, at least, one case outlet (3). By means of adjusting device (21) wheels (11) depending on pressure conditions inside housing (3), including at least back pressure of liquid at the outlet, are turned relative to each other and/or shifted relative to each other. If counter pressure at outlet is less than at least one preset minimum value, wheels (11) are shifted by means of device (21) into initial position. Thereafter, if the back pressure of the liquid at the outlet is not lower than the said at least one minimum value, the wheels located in the initial position of wheel (11) by means of device (21) are turned relative to each other and / or shifted relative to each other.

EFFECT: group of inventions is aimed at simple and efficient optimization of gear pump operation.
