SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering. Technical result is achieved due to stages, at which: creating a key membership record for data elements located in sections existing during repartitioning, wherein the key membership record is configured to record keys associated with data items located in sections existing during repartitioning, and wherein repartitioning is performed such that data elements located in sections existing during repartitioning retain their respective locations; adding one or more new sections associated with the second partitioning function; setting a composite partitioning function for subsequent operations of the database, configured to: applying a first partitioning function for data having key values found in the key membership record; or applying a second partitioning function for data having key values not found in the key membership record.
EFFECT: technical result consists in reduction of time for processing and repeated insertion of data into new locations of database in updated arrangement of sections of database.
