FIELD: nuclear energy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear power engineering and can be used to control service life and preventive prevention of accidents at power units of nuclear power plants (NPP) caused by sudden destruction or depressurisation of a nuclear reactor vessel. Method of recovering mechanical properties of housing material of operated nuclear reactor in absence of external heating source by annealing includes increasing temperature of water heat carrier to 300–345 °C, holding at said temperature for 50–150 hours and reducing heat carrier temperature to ambient temperature.

EFFECT: technical result consists in restoration of design performance characteristics of housing of nuclear reactor due to reduction of risk of sudden brittle failure and depressurisation of housing of nuclear reactor.
