SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to versions of a restraint system for a vehicle user having an instrument panel. Retaining system includes airbag connected to instrument panel and having impact panel facing away from instrument panel when airbag is inflated. Impact panel has a left half and a right half. Left tether is releasably connected to the instrument panel and to the left half of the impact panel. Right tether is releasably connected to instrument panel and to right half of impact panel. Controller is programmed to selectively release one of left and right leashes based on collision angle.
EFFECT: improved safety.
