FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of preparing a catalyst, for example, for oxidising ammonia and hydrocarbon-containing gases. Method of preparing catalyst includes preliminary thermal treatment of inert carrier in current of air or oxygen, successive application of intermediate coating from aluminum oxide and platinum on its surface and drying. Prior to thermal treatment, carrier surface is degreased. Intermediate coating of aluminum oxide is obtained with an aqueous solution of an aluminum salt of the following composition, wt%: nonahydrate aluminum nitrate 3.5–5.0; aqueous ammonia (25 % concentration) 1.4–1.8; gelling additive based on cellulose 0.25–0.35; surfactant 0.1–0.15; water – balance up to 100.

EFFECT: invention is aimed at obtaining uniform coating of the surface of a carrier with reinforced adhesion, which increases working life of the catalyst, increases efficiency of production and reduces its cost.
