FIELD: hydro acoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydroacoustics, can be used in solving problems of processing signals of marine objects with passive hydroacoustic means and is intended for separation of detected objects into two classes: near-surface and underwater. Method is based on reception of acoustic signal of object with hydroacoustic antenna and measurement of direction of arrival of signal in vertical plane. Method comprises forming threshold dividing classes of underwater and near-surface objects in direction of arrival of signal in vertical plane in current hydrophysical conditions, measured direction of arrival of signal in vertical plane is compared to threshold, and result of comparison is decision on class of object (near-surface or underwater).
EFFECT: possibility of detecting marine objects at any distance to automatically separate them into classes of underwater and near-surface irrespective of characteristics of the received signal.
