FIELD: nuclear physics and equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of radioisotopes and can be used for production of radioisotope molybdenum-99. Proposed invention is based on the Szilard-Chalmers effect. Method of producing the radioisotope molybdenum-99 involves making a target from molybdenum-98, irradiating the target with neutrons with activation of molybdenum-98 to molybdenum-99, separation after irradiation from the target of non-activated molybdenum-98 from the activated part of the molybdenum-99 target. Further, the activated portion of the molybdenum-99 target is dissolved in acid or alkali solutions to obtain molybdenum-99 radioisotope, wherein the molybdenum liquid compound placed in the sealed capsule is used to make the target. Non-activated part of molybdenum-98 is separated from the target after irradiation in the form of gas by evaporation of the liquid while heating above the phase transition temperature from liquid to gas. Removed gaseous fraction of non-activated molybdenum-98 is condensed to liquid state and used for repeated fabrication of target.

EFFECT: high specific activity of radioactive molybdenum-99 to values greater than 1,000 Ku/g, with possibility of multiple use of the molybdenum compound for making the target.
