FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine and aims at treating nervous system diseases. Disclosed is use of water-soluble derivatives of fullerene C60 in production of medicinal preparations of neuroprotective action. Fullerene derivatives of formula I are used, containing 5 hydrophilic groups on one hemisphere of fullerene frame, while other half remains non-functionalised. Compounds have hydrophobic and hydrophilic fragments in their structure, which provides ease of their penetration through cell membranes.
EFFECT: invention enables controlling mitochondrial activity and provides cytoprotective (antioxidant) action on different cell types.
