FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, particularly, to steel for production of high-strength wheels for railway transport. Said steel contains, wt. %: C from more than 0.70 to 0.84, Si from 0.02 to 1.00, Mn from 0.50 to 1.90, Cr from 0.02 to 0.50, V from 0.06 to 0.20, S 0.04 % or less, optionally from 0 to 0.2 % Mo, Fe and impurities are the rest. Steel contains the following components as impurities: P 0.05 wt. % or less, Cu 0.20 wt. % or less and Ni 0.20 wt. % or less. Following component ratios are to be maintained: Fn1=34 ≤ 2.7+29.5 × C+2.9 × Si + 6.9 × Mn + 10.8 × Cr + 30.3 × Mo + 44.3 × V = 34÷43 and Fn2=exp(0.76) × exp(0.05 × C) × exp(1.35 × Si) × exp(0.38 × Mn) × exp(0.77 × Cr) × exp(3.0 × Mo) × exp(4.6 × V) ≤ 25.
EFFECT: steel has high wear resistance, fatigue strength in rolling contact zone and shear resistance, which ensures long service life of wheel.
