FIELD: manufacturing technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a refractory article from slag formed during aluminothermite reduction of a metal. Method comprises loading an aluminothermic mixture containing iron oxide and aluminum into a refractory container with tap holes for discharging metal and slag, performing a reduction reaction with formation of completely separated from each other liquid metal and slag floating in full to the metal surface, and separate slag and metal discharge, wherein the reducing reaction is carried out using an aluminothermite mixture containing at least 19 wt% aluminum, the rest is iron oxide, and the loaded slag is poured at a temperature of not lower than 2,100 °C into the carbon casting mold to obtain a refractory article.

EFFECT: enabling production of a refractory article directly in the aluminothermite metal reduction process.
