SUBSTANCE: in an automatic tuning method for measuring a low level of a substance, involving probing the surface of the monitored substance with electromagnetic waves and generating interference of electromagnetic waves which are probing and reflected from the surface of the substance, measuring the radiation frequency of probing electromagnetic waves at one determined value of the substance level, changing the frequency of the probing electromagnetic waves radiation depending on the sign of the level change until reaching the second determined level of the substance, frequency of radiation of probing electromagnetic waves is measured at the second determined value of substance level and by the ratio of measured frequencies corresponding to the first and second determined values of substance level, value of substance level is determined.

EFFECT: technical result of the proposed method is simplification of the substance level measurement procedure.
