FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of metal composite material based on iron with a carbide-based disperse phase. Method involves preparation of mixture of powder from matrix metal with ceramic nano-sized particles, pressing and sintering under pressure. Titanium carbide particles or silicon carbide particles with size of 5–50 nm are used as nano-sized particles. Before preparing the mixture, the surface of the ceramic nanoparticles is prepared by iron trichloride FeCl3, then treated with water vapor in a stream of dry inert gas, followed by simultaneous treatment with iron trichloride FeCl3 and water vapor in a stream of dry inert gas, followed by treatment thereof in a reducing medium H2, and then at room temperature for 30 minutes. Obtained ceramic nano-sized particles with metal coating are mixed with powder of pure iron α-Fe with size of 60–80 nm and their pressing, then heated in mold to 480 °C with subsequent final hot pressing.

EFFECT: higher strength and heat resistance of material, which can be used for production of gas turbine plants and cutting tools.
