FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy, particularly, to production of high-density composite material based on Al2O3-TiCN. It can be used for fabrication of replaceable multi-faceted cutting plates. Powder charge is dried, containing the following, wt. %: 20–40 TiCN and 60–80 α-Al2O3, doped with 0.5–1.0 wt. % Y2O3 and 0.1–0.5 wt. % MgO, to obtain pressing. Preliminary thermal processing of compacting is carried out by heating from room temperature to 300–900 °C at a rate of up to 50 °C/min and holding in flow of reaction mixture of gases to form a protective film of titanium oxide on TiCN particles. After that, two-stage free sintering is carried out: at the first stage, pressing is carried out in a protective medium to temperature of 1450–1550 °C at a rate not exceeding 10 °C/min and holding at maximum temperature of up to 20 minutes, and at second step heating in inert atmosphere to temperature of 1700-1850 °C with speed from 10 to 50 °C/min with holding for 5–20 minutes. Sintered workpieces are cooled at a rate not exceeding 10°C/min.
EFFECT: high strength, crack resistance, hardness and abrasive wear resistance.
