FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: method of processing iron-based concentrates containing platinum group metals involves pulping the concentrate in water, adding an oxidant to the pulp and then treating the obtained mixture with an acid. After pelletizing the concentrate in water, sodium chlorate is added to the pulp in an amount required for oxidation of iron contained in the iron concentrate to oxidation state of 2+ and phosphorus to oxidation state of 5+. Obtained reaction mixture is treated with sulfuric or hydrochloric acid till the pH is equal to 1.0–0.0, the solution is heated and the solution containing iron salts and phosphate ions is separated from the sediment containing platinum group metals.
EFFECT: technical result consists in transfer into solution of main part contained in iron concentrate without formation of hazardous and explosive substances and concentration of platinum group metals in separate industrial product.
