FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ion-plasma technology and can be used for hardening of cutting tool. Method of combined hardening of cutting tool includes filling with gas plasma of working vacuum chamber with cutting tool installed inside it, heating and holding cutting tool in nitrogen plasma and synthesis of wear-resistant coating on its surface from plasma. First, cutting tool is heated and honed by bombardment with a beam of fast argon atoms in argon plasma, then nitrogen is supplied to working vacuum chamber and cutting tool is heated and maintained in nitrogen plasma at temperature of efficient thermodiffusion of nitrogen 500 °C, maintained by bombardment with a beam of fast nitrogen molecules. A mixture of argon and nitrogen is then fed into the working vacuum chamber and a wear-resistant coating of titanium nitride is synthesized on the surface of the cutting tool using a magnetron sprayer in plasma of titanium, nitrogen and argon when bombarding it during synthesis of fast argon atoms and fast nitrogen molecules by pulsed beams.
EFFECT: enabling expansion of operational capabilities of use of combined hardening of cutting tool for micro tools and finishing tool, longer service life of the tool due to its hardening and reduced roughness of the processed article surface due to sharpening.
