FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to purification and production of solutions of electrolytes. Invention is aimed at electrochemical cleaning of solutions of electrolytes and related systems and methods. According to the invention, methods and systems for removing impurities from electrolyte solutions have three or more valence states. In some embodiments, the method involves electrochemical reduction of the electrolyte solution to reduce its valence state to a level where precipitation of impurities from the electrolyte solution occurs, and then filtering the precipitate(s) from the electrolyte solution. In embodiments in which it is required that electrolyte solution is in a higher valence state than valence state of deposition, the method involves oxidation of the purified electrolyte solution to the target valence.
EFFECT: technical result is improved performance of battery, reduced contamination of vanadium flow redox battery system.
