SUBSTANCE: invention relates to solid thermoset foam materials made from Mailard reagents for use as foamed type insulating product. Method of producing said material involves (a) preparing a composition containing a first reagent from reducing sugars and a second reagent, (b) forming a film on a substrate or in a mold with a thickness of at least 1 mm, (c) heating the film to at least 140 °C to provide a unit of solid thermosetting foam material. Second reagent is selected from primary or secondary amine, their acid addition salts and ammonium salts of formula R^n-(NH₄⁺)_n, where n is an integer equal to at least 1, R^n- is an organic or inorganic acid residue. Content of the first and second reagents ranges from 60 to 90 wt. % and from 10 to 40 wt. %, respectively. Content of water in the composition is less than 50 wt. %.

EFFECT: invention provides high efficiency of foaming with formation of a product of rigid foam with volume of at least 500 cm³.
