SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a thermosetting intumescent coating composition which is suitable for protecting substrates against hydrocarbon fires, for example jet fires. Liquid intumescent curable coating composition at ambient temperature comprises: (a) 25.0-75.0 vol% of one or more organic thermosetting polymers and curing agents for organic thermosetting polymers; (b) 5.0-70.0 vol% of one or more sources of phosphoric acid and/or sulphonic acid; (c) 1.0-60.0 vol% of one or more sources of metal and/or metalloid ions selected from oxides, hydroxides, carbonates, bicarbonates, phosphates, chlorides, sulphates, nitrates, silicates and borates Al, Ti, Zn, Cu, Zr, Mg, Na or Ca; and oxides, hydroxides, carbonates of Si and B; as well as complexes thereof; (d) 0.0-5.0 vol% of amino-functional blowing agents selected from urea, dicyandiamide, melamine and derivatives thereof, provided that the total volume of said amino-functional blowing agents is not more than 25% of the volume (c), in which the values in vol% are calculated based on the total volume of non-volatile components in the coating composition. Coating composition can be used without a supporting mesh.
EFFECT: invention also relates to a substrate coated with an intumescent coating composition and a method for protecting the structures from fire.
