FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in production of graphitized carbon fibrous materials. Partially carbonized carbon fibrous material for long storage, for 3 months, is placed in water at room temperature of 10–25 °C. After storage and before continuous high-temperature treatment, including graphitization, said material is washed in running water and dried at temperature not higher than 50 °C to residual moisture of not more than 5–8 wt%.
EFFECT: invention prevents spontaneous ignition and deterioration of properties of partially carbonized carbon fiber material during prolonged storage, and also improves the quality of the end product – graphitized carbon fiber material.
