FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of protecting a superconducting magnet from transitions to a normal state, wherein the superconducting magnet has at least one primary coil containing material-high-temperature superconductor. Providing secondary high-temperature superconducting tape, located in close proximity to primary coil and electrically isolated from it and made with possibility to stop superconductivity at lower temperature, than primary coil, during magnet operation. Superconductivity loss in secondary high-temperature superconductivity tape is detected. In response to said detection energy is released from primary coil into external resistive load.
EFFECT: protection against transitions to normal state in superconducting magnets is disclosed.
