FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a catalyst intended for cleaning tail gases of coal ethylene glycol. Described is the use of a catalyst for cleaning tail gas of coal ethylene glycol, said catalyst comprising: (a) an active component containing one or more elements of an active component selected from a group consisting of Cu, Pd, Pt, oxides thereof, and combinations thereof; (b) an auxiliary substance containing one or more elements of an auxiliary substance selected from a group consisting of transition metals of the sixth period of the periodic table of elements not included in the VIII group of the periodic table of elements, rare-earth elements, oxides thereof, and combinations thereof; and (c) a support which is aluminum oxide; wherein said catalyst has an active component concentration of 0.01 to 5.0 wt%. Method of cleaning tail gas of coal ethylene glycol involves subjecting tail gas of coal ethylene glycol to an effective amount of a catalyst defined above, wherein the tail gas contains nitrogen oxides and methyl nitrite.
EFFECT: reduction of high concentration of NOx in tail gases to below 100 mg/l, low concentration of methyl nitrite in tail gases to below 10 mg/l while maintaining high activity of the catalyst for a long service life.
