FIELD: gas treatment catalysts. SUBSTANCE: invention aims at elaborating catalyst with reduced inflammation temperature, elevated strength, selectivity, and heat resistance simultaneously with high activity at reduced content of palladium compound (active component). Invention provides such catalyst, which contains 0.1-2.0% palladium compound (% calculated for metal) and 0.1-5.0% one or several carrier-modifying compounds on alpha-alumina carrier including one or several compounds of elements selected from Mg, Ca, La, Pr, Ce, Zr, Ba, said palladium compound being contained inside crust 200 to 1500 mcm thick. Preparation of catalyst: alumina carrier is impregnated with acid palladium solution and then subjected to heat treatment in air flow at 400 C, content of free nitric acid in impregnating solution being 5 to 10 g/l and alpha-alumina precursor being aluminum trihydroxide fast dehydration product. Catalyst manifests high activity in reactions of high-temperature nitrogen oxide reduction.
