FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: method can be used to control microroughnesses of surfaces obtained as a result of machine building technological operations. In the method, the analyzed surface is cleaned, a liquid is applied thereon in the form of a fixed volume drop, the moment of the fluid drop spreading over the analysed surface is recorded, determining perimeter and area of spread droplets, then drop is applied on this drop of the same liquid volume equal to the volume of the first drop, recording the moment of termination of the spread of the droplets formed after merging two drops, determining perimeter and area of two spread droplets after their merging; determining fractal dimensionality D of the analyzed rough surface: D = 2⋅loga(Glength 1/ Glength 2), here a = (Garea 1/ Garea 2), where Glength 1 is perimeter of first spread drop; Glength 2 is the perimeter of the droplet formed by merging two drops of the same liquid; Garea 1 is the area of the first spread drop; Garea 2 is area of drop formed as a result of merging of two drops of the same liquid.
EFFECT: technical result is high accuracy of monitoring the level of surface roughness and wider range of analyzed materials.
