FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydrometallurgy of non-ferrous metals, mainly to production of nickel salts and can be used for processing nickel-containing metal wastes. Processing of milled cathode nickel production wastes with iron-containing nickel chloride solution with concentration of 2–5 g/l of iron (III) and 50–230 g/l of nickel at temperature of 40–90 °C to obtain a nickel chloride solution. Treatment is carried out with supply of gaseous chlorine and maintenance of redox potential within range of 550–800 mV to ensure solution density of 1.52–1.61 g/dm3. Then, solution of nickel chloride is purified from impurity components by neutralization with carbonate or nickel hydroxide to pH=2.5–3.5 at temperature of 60–80 °C to obtain a purified solution of nickel chloride and hydrated ferruginous cake, which is dissolved in hydrochloric acid to obtain a solution of ferric chloride.
EFFECT: method increases purity of the obtained nickel chloride while reducing power consumption, reducing the number of operations and improving safety.
