FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydrometallurgy and can be used to produce solutions of ferric chloride from concentrated chloride salt solutions formed during hydrochloride processing of nickel-containing material. Extraction treatment of nickel chloride solution with nickel concentration of 160–220 g/l and chlorine ions of at least 200 g/l with aliphatic ketones with 9–11 carbon atoms or mixture thereof with 2-octanon is carried out. Chloride nickel solution contains 3–40 g/l of iron (III) and accompanying components in the form of sulphate-ion, cobalt, copper, sodium and lead. Extraction treatment is carried out at O:B = 1–3:1 at 1–3 steps with transfer of iron into extract, and main part of companion components – into raffinate. Extract is then washed with a chloride solution containing 5-8 moles of a chloride ion at O:B = 10–20:1 at 1–3 steps. Chloride solution used to wash the extract is a solution of hydrochloric acid or a solution of ferric chloride. Water re-extraction of ferric iron at O:B = 5–20:1 is carried out at 2–4 steps.
EFFECT: technical result is use of non-toxic extractants while providing deep (98½–99½ %) extraction of iron (III) from initial chloride nickel solution.
