ACTIVE-JET PROJECTILE WITH ROCKET-RAMJET ENGINE FOR GUNS WITH A RIFLED BARREL Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC F42B12/00 F42B15/00

Abstract RU 2711208 C1

FIELD: weapons and ammunition.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ammunition, particularly to active-jet projectiles. Missile includes body, driving band and air-augmented rocket with device for increasing volume of afterburning chamber. Rocket-ramjet engine is arranged in aft part of projectile. Rocket-ramjet engine comprises gas generator with charge of solid fuel, support tube with diaphragm, nozzle unit and afterburning chamber with device for increasing its volume. Device for increasing volume of afterburning chamber consists of intermediate bottom, rear bottom and cylindrical shell. Intermediate bottom of afterburning chamber is rigidly connected with nozzle unit and together with its structure elements forms primary volume of afterburning chamber. Rear bottom of afterburning chamber is connected with cylindrical shell. Intermediate bottom of afterburning chamber and rear bottom of afterburning chamber are connected by means of threaded connection, in which they can be turned relative to each other. Due to rotation in the threaded joint caused by the projectile self-rotation at start-up from the rifled barrel, the rear bottom of the after-burning chamber is axially moved relative to the after-combustion chamber bottom. Thus, additional volume of afterburning chamber is formed between cylindrical shell, intermediate and rear bottoms, and total volume of afterburning chamber is increased. Also, at that, annular air intake device is formed, which is a slot between the nozzle unit housing and the cylindrical shell, providing air inflow into the additional volume of afterburning chamber. Due to this, complete combustion of gasification products of solid fuel charge increases. Also due to smooth formation of annular air intake device, which ends at some distance from gun muzzle, destabilizing effect of combustion products of propellant charge on projectile is reduced.

EFFECT: increased range and accuracy of firing.
