SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to methods and apparatus for detecting a marker of active tuberculosis. Disclosed is a method for detecting an active tuberculosis marker, comprising the steps of providing a sample from a human or animal; contacting said sample with a sterol lipid, wherein said sterol lipid is cholesterol or a derivative thereof; obtaining at least two fractions of said sample; contacting the first fraction with a substrate carrying the immobilized antigen obtained from mycolic acid; contacting the second fraction with a substrate which does not carry the immobilized antigen obtained from mycolic acid; contacting the first and second sample fractions with the test and control substrates bearing the immobilized antigen produced from mycolic acid; detecting binding of antibodies with antigen and comparing degree or measure of binding between test and control substrates, wherein any observed less binding to the test substrate is an indicator of the presence of antigen antibodies in the sample, which indicates active tuberculosis in a human or animal. Invention also discloses a system and kits for detecting a marker of active tuberculosis, as well as methods, a system and kits for pre-treatment of a sample obtained from a human or animal suspected of having active tuberculosis.
