SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a furnace, for example, for steam reforming of a hydrocarbon-containing, preferably methane-containing, feed gas stream, as well as to a corresponding method. Furnace includes combustion chamber, reactor tubes located in combustion chamber for receiving catalyst, as well as for carrying out a feed stream through reactor tubes, a burner for combusting fuel in a combustion chamber for heating reactor tubes, and in addition to the burner, a voltage source which is connected to the reactor tubes so that electric current can be created in the reactor tubes, which heats the reactor tubes for raw material heating.
EFFECT: invention provides an advantageous possibility of involving excess energy, in particular renewable energy, in the steam reforming process and to save part of the fuel.
