FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed mixture contains (A) from 90 to 99.9 wt. % mixture of L- and D-enantiomers of methylglycine diacetic acid (MGDA) or its corresponding mono-, di- or tri-alkali salts or mono-, di- or tri-ammonium salts, wherein said mixture contains predominantly corresponding L-enantiomer with enantiomeric excess(-es) in range of 10 to 99 %, and (B) generally 0.1 to 10 wt. % of a diacetic derivative of amino acid, which is valine, in form of free acids or corresponding mono-, di- or tri-alkali salts or mono-, di- or triammonium salts. Percentage values relate to the sum of (A) and (B). Mixtures of the invention exhibit improved water solubility compared to the racemic MGDA mixture and almost the same as the pure L-enantiomer MGDA, but are easier to manufacture. Invention also relates to an aqueous solution containing from 43 to 70 wt. % of said mixture, a method of producing a mixture and an aqueous solution and use thereof for producing detergent compositions for washing or detergent compositions for cleaning agents, including in completely or partially neutralized form.
