FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to surface treatment and can be used for grinding media in the form of grinding balls or in other objects from ferrous metals. Method of surface hardening of object from iron alloy includes at least partial conversion into gas containing carbon polymer for formation of source of strengthening material and exposure of object to source of reinforcing material, so that the reinforcing material source and the object surface react, thereby hardening the object surface. In another version, method for hardening of object surface from iron alloy includes formation of ceramic surface on said object and includes heating a complex source comprising a carbon-containing polymer, metal and/or ceramics in order to form a source of reinforcing material and subjecting the object to a source of reinforcing material, so that the source of the reinforcing material and the surface of the object react to form a ceramic surface of the object.
EFFECT: enabling the processed object surface hardening.
