FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to microwave engineering and specifically to quadrature directional couplers. Spiral ultra-wideband microstrip quadrature directional coupler has two electromagnetically connected microstrip transmission lines made in form of a flat two-coil spiral located on a dielectric substrate, the reverse side of which is completely metallized. Coupler has cascade connections of eight areas with different communication level and has functional possibility of equalizing the phase velocity of propagating waves at different frequencies, at that one spiral is turned relative to the other one around their common centre. Gaps between connected coupler transmission lines, as well as transverse dimensions of connected lines are non-uniform, varying from section to section.
EFFECT: technical result is higher efficiency of use of useful area of dielectric substrate and reduced overall dimensions of device, wider band of operating frequencies.
