FIELD: acoustics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to acoustics. A device for outputting a stereo audio signal having a left channel and a right channel, the device comprising: a demultiplexer configured to receive a bit audio stream and extract a prediction coefficient from it for each of the plurality of frequency bands; a decoder configured to generate a downmix signal and a residual signal from the encoded bitstream; and an upmix device configured to operate in either prediction mode or prediction mode based on a parameter encoded in the bit audio stream, and outputting the left channel and the right channel as a stereo audio signal, wherein when the upmix device operates in prediction mode, residual signal represents the difference between the side signal and the predicted version of the side signal, and the upmix device generates a left channel and a right channel from the combination of the downmix signal, the residual signal and the prediction coefficients for each of the plurality of frequency bands, and where, when the upmix device operates in a prediction-free mode, the residual signal represents a side signal, the upmix device generates a left channel based on the sum of the downmix signal and the residual signal transmitted through the decoder, and the upmix device generates a right channel based on the difference between the downmix signal and the residual signal transmitted through the decoder.
