FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a lipid having the structural formula X-A-Y-Z (I), or a salt thereof, which can be used to deliver a therapeutic agent, such as a nucleic acid, into a cell. In formula (I), X is a dialkylamino group; A is C1-C6 alkyl; Y is selected from a group consisting of carbamate, an ester, optionally substituted with carbamate alkyl and ether; Z is a hydrophobic moiety and has formula , where R1, R2, and R3 are each independently selected from a group consisting of C8-C11 alkyl, where each of R1, R2, and R3 independently can be saturated or unsaturated. Invention also relates to specific lipids of formula (I), lipid particles containing said lipids, a pharmaceutical composition containing said lipid particles, methods of introducing and delivering a therapeutic agent such as nucleic acid in vivo into a cell.
EFFECT: methods of using trialkyl cationic lipids are disclosed.
