SUBSTANCE: disclosed is an automated method of detecting HIV-1 nucleic acids in a blood sample. Method involves providing a blood sample with suspected HIV infection dried on filter paper, eluting said sample using an elution buffer, carrying out a PCR and analyzing the results to determine whether the samples contain HIV-1 samples.
EFFECT: invention provides effective testing of dried blood stains for HIV-1 viral load.
