FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in application of optical elements on financial documents for authentication and/or counterfeit protection. Method of orienting magnetically oriented flakes involves displacement of the substrate through a magnetic field. Substrate includes a fluid carrier containing magnetically oriented flakes. Magnetic field acts on magnetically oriented flakes to be oriented in one of multiple orientations. During movement of the substrate through the magnetic field, radiation is applied to a plurality of selected regions of the fluid carrier through at least one opening in the mask for curing the fluid carrier on a plurality of selected portions and fixing magnetically oriented flakes on a plurality of selected areas in corresponding angular orientations caused by the magnetic field.
EFFECT: invention enables to create in printing process specified optical effects, which make it difficult to forge visually encoded articles.
