METHOD FOR TEMPORARY MINIMALLY INVASIVE FIXATION OF MULTIPLE AND FLOATING RIB FRACTURES Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC A61B17/56 A61F5/449

Abstract RU 2718755 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to surgery, and can be used for temporary minimally invasive stabilization of multiple and floating rib fractures. A line of fractures of the body of the ribs is used, which is determined by ultrasonic examination. Further, soft tissues are incised 5 cm long perpendicular to the intercostal space line. Then, fractures of 2-3 adjacent ribs are selected from this incision; 7–8 cm from the fracture line, on the side of the anterior end puncture through the soft tissues outside the region of the incision, a guide is placed on the rib at angle of 20–30° to its plane. Further, through the guide in the cortical layer of the external surface of the rib, hole 2 mm deep with diameter of 2 mm is drilled with a drill with a limiter. Then the drill is removed, and K-wire 1.5×250 mm is brought into the guide tube into the formed hole. Using the drill, the wire is advanced intramedullary in the spongy substance to the fracture line. After manual reduction and comparison of fragments under visual control, the wire is introduced into spongy substance with a fragment of posterior end of rib at distance of not less than 7–8 cm. Remaining on surface of skin part of the pin on the side of front end of rib fragments is fixed under protective dressing. Then soft tissues are closed in layers.

EFFECT: method enables stabilizing movable fragments of ribs with low traumatic injuries, restoring biomechanics of respiratory movements, providing early activation of the affected individuals and thereby reducing a rate of complications on the part of the breast organs.
