SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry and specifically to methods for quantitative determination of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) in a sample. Method for quantitative determination of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) in a sample involves feeding a sample which contains 1,3-butadiene and NMP, if present, into a gas chromatographic system attached to a nitrogen-phosphorus detector to obtain a first signal; and comparing the first signal with the second signal obtained for a standard with known concentration of NMP, for quantitative determination of NMP in the sample, where the sample was not concentrated with respect to NMP before adding the sample to the gas chromatographic system.

EFFECT: high efficiency of a quantitative method of analyzing N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) in a hydrocarbon sample.
