FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an ethylene oligomerisation catalyst composition and a method of producing linear alpha-olefins using such a catalyst composition. The composition contains (i) a transition metal compound of general formula MXm(OR')4-m or MXm(OOCR')4-m, where R' is an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl group, X is a chlorine or bromine atom and m equals a number from 0 to 4, and (ii) a product of reacting an organoaluminium compound and a cyclic amide of structural formula where x=1-9. Wax or polymer are not formed during oligomerisation of ethylene.
EFFECT: catalyst composition has high catalytic activity and selectivity with respect to formation of the hexene-1 fraction.
