FIELD: methods and devices for metal processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to diffusion welding and can be used for making bimetallic structures consisting of a combination of stainless steel + titanium alloy or titanium alloy + nickel alloy in virtually all industries. Bimetallic structures to be welded are made from materials which form intermetallic phases. Intermediate layer is placed between welded materials in form of porous tape from ultrafine metal powder (UMP). Diffusion welding is carried out at temperature making 0.85–0.9 of temperature of formation of intermetallic phases of metal of intermediate layer with one of welded materials and between welded materials.
EFFECT: intermediate layer of UMP minimizes formation of intermetallides, which enables to avoid diffusion bond embrittlement at maintaining its tensile strength.
