SUBSTANCE: more specifically, the invention relates to a device and methods used to provide a decorative design on a given portion of the outer surface of the metal housing of the container. Decorator comprises at least one digital printing unit, a transfer web and a support element. Digital printing unit transfers the decorating material to the transfer sheet in order to form a decoration on the transfer web. Support element displaces metal container in contact with transfer web. Thus, decorating material is transferred to said section of outer surface of metal container for decorative design of container. In one embodiment, the digital printing unit is an electrophotographic system which transfers the toner to the transfer web. In another embodiment, the digital printing unit comprises a jet printing head which transfers the ink to the said transfer web.
