FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a two-step method of producing hydroxytyrosol based on successive conversion of tyrosol to 3-bromo-4-hydroxyphenethylacetate and then to hydroxytyrosol. At the first step, a solution of bromine in acetic acid is added drop-wise to the solution of tyrosol in acetic acid, held at room temperature, 3-bromo-4-hydroxyphenethylacetate is extracted by extraction and purified by vacuum distillation. At the second step, 3-bromo-4-hydroxyphenethylacetate and CuSO4 are added in an argon atmosphere to a NaOH solution in water and boiled under reflux. Hydroxytyrosol (2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)ethanol) is extracted by extraction and purified by vacuum distillation.
EFFECT: obtaining hydroxytyrosol with output of 61% with respect to the initial tyrosol.
