FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of liquid dinitrogen tetroxide (N2O4), used in chemical industry for production of nitrites, nitrates, in low-tonnage production of organic and inorganic substances, as well as in rocket engineering as oxidizer of rocket propellant. Method of producing dinitrogen tetroxide involves thermal decomposition of nitric acid, followed by separation of dinitrogen tetroxide and nitric acid, cooling, condensation and rectification treatment of dinitrogen tetroxide. Water solution of nitric acid with concentration of 55–99 % for 0.2–1.5 s is subjected to thermal decomposition at temperature of 250–350 °C. Decomposition products are cooled at rate of 180–250 °C/s and dinitrogen tetroxide is extracted. Nitric acid is returned to the cycle.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain nitrogen tetroxide with output of 95–99 %, simplifies the instrumentation of the process, eliminates the use of expensive equipment, reduces power consumption by reducing the steps of the process.
