FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. Method of producing nitric acid involves catalytic oxidation of ammonia in the presence of oxygen to form a nitrous gas containing NO, O2, N2O and water vapor. Nitrous gas is treated to reduce N2O and converting NO to NO2. Catalytic removal of N2O is carried out by passing gas over the first catalyst at temperature lower than temperature of catalytic oxidation of ammonia. Then catalytic conversion is carried out NO to NO2 by passing gas over the second catalyst. Obtained treated nitrous gas is used at the absorption step, where NO2 is absorbed in water to obtain nitric acid. Also disclosed is an apparatus for producing nitric acid, a version of the method of producing nitric acid and using an aged Fe-FER catalyst in the method of producing nitric acid, previously used for decomposition of N2O in gas containing nitrogen, oxygen, N2O, NOx and water, as a catalyst for oxidation of NO to NO2.
EFFECT: group of inventions increases the degree of oxidation of NO to NO2, which increases production of nitric acid, while reducing costs and power consumption, as well as pollutant emissions.
