FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrolysis unit for aluminum production. Electrolysis cell contains a bath filled with cryolite-alumina melt, alternating vertical inert anodes and cathodes shifted downwards relative to anodes and installed on supports, which exclude contact of cathodes with liquid aluminum assembled on the bottom of the bath, and an alumina feed system. Electrolysis cell cathodes are installed on supports made of refractory material, along boards and in the bath center, and in the bath end there is a recess for collection and pouring of aluminum from it. Alumina feed system comprises hopper, chutes for supply of alumina into electrolyte and drive for control of leaks and is located between anode beams along longitudinal axis of bath. Anode beam is equipped with a device for squeezing the crust of the electrolyte with alumina in the cells by lowering the anode beam. Content of impurities in aluminum with full consumption of anodes during 5 years of operation of electrolysis cell is 0.20–0.35 wt%, which complies with commercial requirements.
EFFECT: higher output to flow and reduced power consumption due to exclusion of MHD processes in bath, improved quality of aluminum and increased service life of inert anodes, reduced cost of lining due to its refractory instead of carbon lining and increased service life of electrolytic cell.
