FIELD: furnaces and ovens.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of obtaining a parameter representing the height of the upper surface of material laid in a coke furnace relative to a reference plane. Such method relates, in particular, to measurement of level of packed coal or coke. Disclosed is a method of obtaining a parameter representing height (H) of upper surface (29) of material (20) placed in coke oven (10), relative to reference plane (P), comprising the following steps: providing sensor (47) located above upper surface at working distance (D1) from support plane, wherein sensor and material form a capacitor characterized by a capacitance; obtaining at least one capacitive signal representing said capacitance; obtaining at least one distance signal (S2) using a capacitive signal, wherein distance signal represents distance (D2) between sensor and upper surface in vertical direction (Z), and obtaining said parameter representing height using distance signal and working distance.

EFFECT: technical result is increased accuracy and reliability of obtained data.
