FIELD: shipbuilding; ice-technical equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ice-breaking, particularly, to performance of icebreaking works by air-cushion ships. Disclosed is a method of destruction of ice cover in shallow water, which consists in simultaneous movement in the same direction of two air-cushion vessels along ice edge in close proximity to each other and to ice edge. First ship is moved at critical speed through free water, and second - with resonance along solid ice behind first. Distance between them shall be equal to half the length of resonant flexural-gravity waves, and parameters of the first vessel shall be sufficient for excitation of gravitational waves, height of ridges of which shall be greater than depth of bottom of flexural-gravity waves.
EFFECT: this will provide flooding of ice cover surface with gravity waves before the second vessel, which will reduce ice strength and accordingly increase its destruction efficiency.
