FIELD: chemistry; water and air purification technology.

SUBSTANCE: method of purifying exhaust gas containing more than 10 ppm sulfur involves contacting a NOx containing gas and a reducing agent with a catalyst composition for catalytic reduction, at least part of NOx to N2, said catalyst composition comprising a fine-pored molecular sieve, 0.5–5 wt % transition metal (Tm), selected from copper and/or iron, with respect to total weight of molecular sieve, and 0.5–5 wt % nickel relative to the total weight of the molecular sieve, wherein the transition metal and nickel are present in a ratio of Tm:Ni of 10:1 to 1:2 by weight, and wherein said molecular sieve contains CHA-frame, AEI-frame or a combination thereof.

EFFECT: ability of catalyst to maintain good catalytic activity at exposure to high sulfur levels enables catalyst to undergo less frequent regenerations to remove sulfur contaminants; less frequent regenerations of the catalyst provide more stable functionality of the catalyst.
