USE OF POLYGLYCEROL ESTERS AS TRIBO-MODIFIERS IN LUBRICATING COMPOSITIONS Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC C10M105/42 C10M169/04 C10M129/78 C10N30/06

Abstract RU 2726194 C2

FIELD: chemical or physical processes.

SUBSTANCE: application describes a lubricating oil composition comprising (a) from 0.2 to 5 wt % of partial polyglycerol esters in terms of the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, characterized by that partial polyglycerol esters can be obtained by esterification of a mixture of polyglycerol using (i) multifunctional carboxylic acids and (ii) saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched fatty acids and (ii) poly (hydroxystearic acid), where the degree of esterification of the polyglycerol mixture ranges from 30 to 75 % of the OH groups; (b) from 85 to 99.8 wt % of an apolar base component selected from a group comprising basic components of API groups II, III and IV and/or mixtures thereof, based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition; and (c) from 0 to 10 wt % of Group V ester oil, corresponding to the definition of American Petroleum Institute (API), based on the total weight of the lubricating oil composition, characterized by that multifunctional carboxylic acids (i) are aliphatic dicarboxylic acids which are selected from a group consisting of malonic acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid, maleic acid, dimethylglutaric acid, adipic acid, trimethyl adipic acid, azelaic acid, sebacic acid, dodecane dicarboxylic acid and anhydrides thereof, and that partial polyglycerol esters have an HLB value of 3 to 7 and an OH number in range of 50 to 180 mg KOH/g, including partial esters of polyglycerol of multifunctional carboxylic acids and saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched fatty acids and/or poly (hydroxystearic acid). Also disclosed is use of the disclosed lubricating oil composition to reduce friction in the engine.

EFFECT: disclosed is use of polyglycerol esters as tribo-modifiers in lubricating compositions.
